Learn to fly a helicopter in Hawke’s Bay

We believe that Hawke’s Bay offers one of the finest possible training grounds to learn to fly helicopters. Why? It’s simple.

  • Hawke’s Bay is renowned for its weather. The weather not only makes it a great place to live and to visit, but it also makes it a fantastic place to learn to fly. Because with great weather comes more opportunities to be up in the air.

It’s easier to clock up more hours of flight time in a place where the sun shines 2,700 hours a year.

  • If you want to learn how to fly in different environments, then Hawke’s Bay offers up a multitude of flying environments to test your skills, from mountainous terrain to controlled airspace.

  • We are located at Napier Airport in a control zone, learn how to interact with a control tower from day one.

  • We’ve got it all here in Hawke’s Bay - a relaxed lifestyle, sunshine, beaches, wineries, great restaurants and even Art Deco if that’s your thing. Plus a lower cost of living than bigger cities.

The Aroha Advantage

  • The man in charge at Aroha Helicopters is Skiv Devescovi. If you’ve not encountered Skiv before, it’s likely because he’s been busy flying helicopters for the last 20 years. Ask him to tell you stories about flying in Burma, Kenya, Botswana, Antarctica, Australia or Papua New Guinea. He can tell these stories because he’s been there, done that and lived to tell the tales.

  • When you’ve had 20 years behind the controls of helicopters you inevitably run into some hairy situations. And wouldn’t you like to learn from a guy who’s had all the frights and knows how to teach you how to avoid them?

  • We operate a Cabri G2, our “Piwakawaka” which is a very 21st century helicopter, it is also quickly becoming the number one choice of training aircraft in New Zealand due to its impressive characteristics.

  • We understand that doing your licence is a big commitment especially if you have full time work and a family to look after, we will work with you when you are available, be it early mornings, late evenings or even weekends we are here to help you to your licence goal.

We can help with training, supporting you with resources, training materials and getting your flight hours up.
